Mekong River .
GEOPHYSICAL The biome of the Mekong River is fresh water. There is 240 speicies of fish. The river has 6 major dams. The length of the river is 2,610 miles (4,200 km). the river drains through the Yunnan province. has rapids and waterfalls. The two most current issues are the building of dams and the blasting of rapids. A number of dams have already been built on the river's tributaries
CULTURAL "Mekong was a name given to the river originally by people of the thai language. The meaning of the name means "Mother of all rivers". The earliest known civilization inhabiting the mekong would be the "Indianised-Khmer culture of Funan". The first euoropean settlers to explore the mekong would be the Portugese in 1540. The Ban Chiang we discovered to be inhabitating the river in 2100 BCE. Some problems with people settling on the river is some countries are building way to much dams. The countries involved in this problem would be the Thai, Lao, and Chinese. The reason behind bulidings these dams would be for the use of hydro electric energy. The problem with the dams are that they storing waters in other parts of the river leaving some parts to have very few amounts of water. That leaves not enough for the animals inhabiting the river and left some in danger like the manatee, river dolphin, and endangered channel cat fish. http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/staticfiles/NGS/Shared/StaticFiles/animals/images/primary/Megafish%20470%20ga/mekong-catfish-boat-ga.jpg
So far coming up for a solution to stop the building of more dams has been contributed mainly by The World Wildlife Foundation. What they are doing is attempting to persuade the dam builders to be able to still use their hydro electric energy but in a more environmental way. Another problem that people and animals alike have to deal with is blasting of rapids.

This process is usually done by detonating sand banks, rocks, gorges, and slow waters. The result of these detonations is possible devastating flood also pollution from all the debris is a factor as well. How this effects the people living amongst the river is pullution and flooding of the river is extremely ruinous to the fishes who live in those waters and for the fishermen who harvest those fish as a life's living. So far people who are living along the river are fighting back to protect Mekong , "the mother of all rivers".
Ecological
The mekong river is along the thai lao border. the mekong river has rapids, whirlpools, beach islets and sand dunes. there are at least 1,300 speicies of fish. most of the fish are migratory fish in the mekong basin. also giant cat fish there are also migratory birds. also go's through the yunnan. they are also getting mechanical dams for the lower part of the dam
The mouth of the Mekong would the south china sea being one of the longest rivers measuring at 2,365 miles. The countries it flows through are China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. One of the Mekongs delta can be found in Vietnam it covers 40,000 square kilometers and is a low plain being only 3 meters above sea level. The delta is used by the Vietnamese for growing rice making the whole region one big rice cultivation center. Vietnamese officials claim that the delta deposits about 1 billion cubic meters of sediment.
Some problems that the river face are that countries like china are building way to many dams. The problem with the dams is that they are creating a shortage of water. This is endangering species causing fisherman very little fish to catch and when they catch them the fish are very small compared to previous years where the dams were not yet constructed. Also ferries that use these waters get stuck occasionally since there isn't enough water for them to pass. So far the people who live near the Mekong are putting the blame on the Chinese who are primarily responsible for almost all dam constructions
